Organising tools for the bathroom and kitchen

In my previous post, I talked about how I designed storage in my house. In this post, I want to talk about the storage organizers that I used around the house. I bought almost all of them on Amazon. Browsing Amazon was my favorite activity in those days. :) I have included links (affiliate links) to the products on Amazon, in case some of you might want to buy them.

You might have noticed that I did not mention anything about bathroom storage in my previous post. The bathrooms were given to us ready with all the fittings. As per our carpenter, in one of the bathrooms (guest bathroom), it was not possible to make an under-sink storage due to the sink shape. I needed something there to store cleaning supplies and a space for guest toothbrushes etc. There was a perfect narrow space between the sink and the bathroom wall where I could fit in a four-level sliding trolley.

The only other thing we bought for the guest bathroom was an expandable tension shower rod and a shower curtain to prevent the whole bathroom from getting wet from a shower, obviously. The tension shower rod can be fixed without the use of nails which is a big plus in a tile-covered bathroom. The shower curtain is also a great quality. To prevent the shower curtain from getting moldy, draw it out and open the bathroom for ventilation after a shower. I also use a squeegee to remove water from the walls and floor of the bathroom. The less moisture left over in the bathroom, the better for it in terms of mold and odors.

The one other thing which we bought from a local hardware store was a towel rack like this one. It can be folded up to clear space if needed and has lots of room for your towels and clothes.

In the other bathroom (master bathroom) of the house, we could build a cabinet under the sink because it was on a platform. I store medicines and extra toiletries there. On the top of the platform, I have two small baskets to hold everyday items. I love the cute green color on the baskets and they match with my hand soap dispenser. One basket has toothbrushes, combs, and shaving supplies for the husband. The other basket has face wash, lotion, and deoderants which we need after a bath. Speaking of lotion, I am in love with this lotion. I am on my third bottle in about 6 months. I love that it absorbs right into the skin and that only a little bit is needed. It also boasts of being paraben-free.

We also needed a shower caddy in the master bathroom to keep our soaps and shampoos. We got one from the local store which hangs on the shower head, like this one. I can't help myself from recommending this shampoo. I have a severe hair fall problem and I was looking for a shampoo with minimal chemicals. This shampoo seems to be just what I wanted. It cleans the hair quite well too and lathers up well, unlike some other Ayurvedic shampoos that I tried. It might be because of the shikakai. I remember my mom using boiled shikakai water to wash her hair when I was a child.

The other area of the house that needs the most organizing help is the kitchen. Starting with the kitchen sink, I bought this organizer. I removed the middle pump and put in this small bottle which contains a mixture of vinegar, water, and a tiny bit of dish soap for cleaning my kitchen platform. The other sections hold my hand soap and dish soap.

Attached to the kitchen is a small utility balcony. I bought this broom organizer. I love that you can hang the brooms off the floor and it looks very organized. :)

The wall beside the sink has the door to the balcony. On either side of the door, I got a small rod fixed on the wall. I hang my apron, kitchen towel, and a hand towel on one side. On the other side, I hang my dishwashing apron, wiping cloth, and bottle cleaning brushes. I use these S-hooks to hang some of the items.

The modular kitchen was also provided by the builder. I bought two of these plate organizers to keep my plates and nonstick pans neatly and to avoid them scratching each other. I kept them in the cabinet and I now have an easy access to my plates.

Organizing the house is an ongoing process. You buy some things, discard some and then you need to rethink the organization of the items. In areas like the storeroom, I reuse shipping cardboard boxes to categorize and hold items. It gets reorganized each time I arrange the monthly grocery which I order from big basket.
